The report, delivered to the Ministry of Energy today, responds to an assignment given to Statnett in 2023, where Statnett was requested to investigate possible grid solutions for the next development phase of offshore wind in the Sørvest F area.

- Statnett has evaluated five grid concepts, one of which is radially connected to Norway, while the other four are various hybrid grid concepts where the offshore wind is also connected to one of our neighbouring countries. The concepts were chosen to show the effects of different alternatives for connecting offshore wind in Sørvest F, says Gunnar Løvås, Executive Vice President for Markets & System Development at Statnett.

The report discusses how the grid concepts affect socio-economic profitability and electricity prices, as well as the interaction with the onshore power system. The Ministry will determine the grid concept before any potential announcement.

- The different grid concepts all have various characteristics and effects. Our analyses show that it is likely possible to connect 2.8 GW of offshore wind to southern Norway with the planned onshore grid reinforcements, says Løvås.
